American Legion Auxiliary – China Post 1

Who We Are

The American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) for China Post 1 is a dedicated community of patriots. We are the spouses (both wives and husbands), mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, granddaughters, and direct descendants of veterans who have served our country. China Post 1 is unique as the “Post in Exile,” originally formed in Shanghai, China, and operating globally today. Our Auxiliary carries forward this rich history of resilience and global camaraderie.

What We Do

Our mission centers on serving veterans, military families, and local communities worldwide.

  • Veteran Support: We volunteer at medical centers, organize care packages, and assist veterans in need.
  • Youth Programs: We sponsor educational initiatives, scholarships, and leadership opportunities like ALA Girls State / Girls Nation.
  • Patriotic Advocacy: We promote national security, respect for the flag, and active civic participation.
  • Community Outreach: We host fundraising events and support local community service projects.

Why Join?

Joining the China Post 1 Auxiliary connects you to a meaningful legacy and a global network.

  • Honor Your Hero: Keep your family veteran’s legacy alive through active service.
  • Global Fellowship: Connect with a unique, worldwide network of members who share your values.
  • Make an Impact: Directly improve the lives of veterans, active-duty military, and their families.
  • Develop Leadership: Gain access to civic training, mentorship, and organizational leadership roles.

How to Join

To become a member of the Auxiliary, you must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. General Eligibility: You must be a spouse (male or female), or an eligible female relative of a veteran who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during official eligibility periods.
  2. Husbands of Veterans: Non-veteran husbands are fully eligible to join based on their wife’s military service. Per national American Legion Auxiliary Eligibility Guidelines, the veteran wife must be a member of The American Legion (if she is living).
  3. Required Documents: You will need to provide a copy of your veteran relative’s discharge papers (such as a DD-214) to verify eligibility.
  4. Application: Complete the official membership form, which can be printed from the National ALA Website.
